Ci racconta qualcosa che vuol far conoscere su di Lei per il pubblico di lingua italiana?

Anni, dove vive, hobby, perché ama così tanto i Calabroni?

risposta:

“Sono Evan e ho 28 anni.

Vivo in un quartiere chiamato NoDa che è probabilmente a 12 minuti a nord dello Spectrum Center se questo può aiutarti a immaginare un po ‘meglio dove abiti.

Per vivere mi occupo di marketing: attualmente aiuto le piccole imprese qui a Charlotte a costruire i loro marchi attraverso strategie digitali.

Questo è probabilmente il motivo per cui mi piace fare cose come Bring Back The Buzz come hobby.

Per quanto riguarda il motivo per cui amo gli Hornets…

La risposta più semplice è che sono di Charlotte.

La risposta complessa è che il basket è stato il mio primo amore da bambino a livello sportivo, ha messo Charlotte “sulla mappa” e le partite erano un festoso evento da vivere in famiglia come un Carnevale”.

1ª domanda:

Premesso che per me, fan di lunga data targato Hornets, avete salvato mezza vita… com’è nata l’idea di Bring Back The Buzz?

Quanto avete dovuto spingere e faticare per farvi ascoltare dalla società?

1ª risposta:

“E’ molto toccante da sentire.

Mio fratello e io stavamo guardando una partita dei Bobcats.

Stavamo discutendo di quanto la città fosse indifferente al successo della squadra in quel momento. Ci siamo chiesti perché fosse così e ci siamo detti:

“Non sarebbe così se fossimo ancora gli Hornets!”.

Quella sera costruimmo un sito web e una pagina Twitter.

Il resto è storia.

All’inizio è stato piuttosto difficile ma eravamo presenti su tutti i media (notiziari/emittenti tv e radio) qui a Charlotte così iniziavamo a guadagnare terreno a livello nazionale.

Siamo stati una spina nel fianco per un po’ quindi penso che la loro strategia sia stata quella di ignorarci il più a lungo possibile fino a quando non sono più riusciti a farlo.

Hanno abbracciato la nostra esistenza e adesso e penso che ne trarranno grandi benefici nei prossimi anni”.

2ª domanda:

Molti tifosi si chiedono quali siano le differenze tra gli Hornets originari (fino al 2002) e quelli nuovi.

Perché, mentre il primo progetto era stato di buon successo (più di 9 anni di sell-out consecutivi, squadra spesso sopra i .500 e tante apparizioni ai PO) questo stenta a decollare a livello di risultati sul parquet?

2ª risposta:

“Penso che la differenza principale sia l’apatia (menzionata prima) che esisteva qui a Charlotte all’inizio dell’era Bobcats.

La NBA ha portato via gli Hornets da Charlotte, cosa che ha inacidito molte persone qui per il campionato e poi due anni dopo hanno strappato il cerotto troppo presto dandoci qualcosa di strano e a noi estraneo chiamato “Bobcats”.

Ciò, unito a scarse prestazioni sul campo, ha portato all’apatia senza che nessuno possa ritenere la squadra responsabile di ciò.

Sono stati semplicemente ignorati.

Questo è ciò che Bring Back The Buzz stava cercando di risolvere.

Riportare la vecchia intensità dalla base dei fan (fan base o i suoi supporter, i suoi tifosi, i suoi sostenitori), costruire una comunità per rimanere legati alla squadra anche quando le cose vanno male.

Penso che si stiano vedendo i risultati di una base di fan impegnata che chiede di più dal team e dall’organizzazione, motivo per cui stiamo tornando “nel passato.”

Ci sono anche alcune differenze tra la Charlotte di quel tempo e quella attuale che è cresciuta enormemente”.

3ª domanda:

Ci sono delle differenze tra la Charlotte dell’epoca e quella attuale cresciuta enormemente, ovvero, quanto è importante per le sorti del team la presenza fisica dei fan allo Spectrum Center e quanto è importante la Hornets-mania del popolo teal & purple sparso per il globo?

3ª risposta:

“Charlotte allora era una piccola città e gli Hornets erano davvero l’unica attrazione in città nel 1988 quindi le persone li adoravano e andavano a veder le loro partite.

Charlotte è cresciuta ed è divenuta una città multietnica.

Ci sono molte più possibilità oggi.

Siamo una delle città in più rapida crescita negli Stati Uniti.

C’è un periodo di scoperta con le persone che si trasferiscono qui e penso che a causa dell’aumento del successo degli Hornets recentemente questi nuovi volti stiano iniziando a rendersi conto che i Calabroni sono divertenti e così stanno diventandone fan ma Charlotte, a modo suo, sarà sempre una piccola città nel cuore.

Non infastidiamo gli atleti quando li vediamo in pubblico.

Annuiamo con la testa, salutiamo e continuiamo a muoverci e li lasciamo vivere.

Non ci sono tante altre realtà delle nostre dimensioni che lasciano vivere in pace qualcuno così famoso.

Ecco perché molti giocatori che hanno vissuto qui molto tempo – dopo la fine della loro carriera o migrati in altri team – mantengono case qui.

Quella connessione tra fan e giocatore è unica qui e ci apprezzano per questo.

I tifosi più caldi se la portano con se’ la sera della partita quindi c’è un legame intimo che i giocatori devono riconquistarsi e rinsaldare ogni notte”.

4ª domanda:

Il 2019 ha portato via l’ex bandiera Kemba Walker al quale i fan erano molto affezionati mentre il Covid-19 nel 2020 ha colpito tutto il mondo.

Come sta vivendo la Charlotte sportiva e la Queen City reale questi due difficili e differenti aspetti che stanno mettendo in difficoltà la città?

4ª risposta:

“Le persone si stanno adattando in tutto il mondo.

Perdere Kemba è stato difficile ma abbiamo affrontato la dura realtà e siamo passati a sostenere la nostra squadra.

Gli auguriamo il meglio ma dovevamo pianificare il futuro e vedere come avremmo potuto migliorare il team con i pezzi che avevamo.

Di tanto in tanto ricordiamo nostalgicamente il passato ma stiamo lavorando con le carte che abbiamo.

Penso che sia simile con la pandemia.

Stiamo organizzando feste sorvegliate con particolare attenzione alle distanze sociali, ci stiamo impegnando molto di più sui social media.

Ci domandate quanto terremmo ad essere lì?

Ci terremmo davvero moltissimo ma per il momento non possiamo e ci stiamo adattando e facendo del nostro meglio”.

Passiamo al futuro:

LaMelo Ball e Gordon Hayward, due nomi per rilanciare il progetto degli Hornets sul campo perché forse, la miglior medicina per attrarre futuri buoni FA è vincere oggi.

Pensi che siano due giocatori che potranno essere il trampolino di lancio per un futuro più radioso per i Calabroni?

5ª risposta:

“Credo di si.

Abbiamo una giovane stella nascente e un veterano di livello All-Star più una squadra che sta impressionando l’intero mondo NBA.

Penso che l’NBA sappia che siamo a un paio di pezzi dall’essere una forza con cui fare i conti. Guarda anche come abbiamo controbilanciato Gordon e stiamo aiutando Terry a prosperare (entrambe le risorse ottenute da Boston), adesso penso che ci saranno più giocatori che ci considereranno come una meta per il futuro”.

6ª domanda:

Marco Belinelli, giocatore italiano transitato dagli Hornets ha parlato molto bene dell’organizzazione degli Charlotte Hornets e di Michael Jordan.

Cosa ne pensi dell’organizzazione e di MJ?

Molti fan vorrebbero un Jordan al livello stellare del giocatore che fu anche da presidente.

Per ora MJ sta facendo piccoli passi alla volta.

Quali pensi possano essere le difficoltà oggettive che il proprietario degli Hornets sta incontrando nel strutturare un team da contender?

6ª risposta:

“Penso che Jordan abbia finalmente costruito qualcosa di cui può fidarsi e non credo che senta più il bisogno di intervenire e spingere troppo la sua posizione di titolare.

Si fida del processo di Mitch (Kupchak) e penso che finora si stia effettivamente andando in una direzione fruttuosa.

Jordan sta traendo beneficio nell’essere meno coinvolto nelle operazioni di basket ma è comunque “abbastanza Jordan” per esser sempre pronto ad alzare la cornetta e a parlare con un free agent, alla fine della giornata nessun giocatore NBA non ignorerà una telefonata di Michael Jordan”.

Ha un messaggio libero per i fan italiani e quelli nel mondo che supportano Charlotte?

7ª risposta:

“Ho parlato con fan degli Hornets in tutto il mondo: dall’Australia al Giappone passando per l’Italia e la Germania, ecc.

Tifosi come voi dimostrano un’incredibile lealtà.

È molto più difficile per voi ragazzi stare al passo con la squadra rispetto a noi qui a Charlotte e vi lodo per la vostra dedizione.

Spero che a breve tutti voi possiate trovare l’opportunità di unirvi a noi qui nella Buzz City per una birra prima di una partita!

For those who don’t know him yet, Evan is one of the creators of Bring Back The Buzz, the group that strongly wanted to bring back the true identity of the Hornets to Charlotte after the decision to New Orleans to abandon it. Evan, can you tell us something about yourself that you want to share with the Italian-speaking audience?

Question:

What is your age, where do you live, what are your hobbies and in particular why do you love the Hornets so much?

Answer:

“I’m Evan and im 28 years old.

I live in a neighborhood called NoDa which is probably 12 minutes north of the arena here in Charlotte if that helps you imagine where a little bit better.

I do marketing for a living currently helping smaller businesses here in Charlotte build their brands through digital strategies.

Which is probably why I like to do things like Bring Back The Buzz as my hobbies.

As far as for why I love the Hornets…

The simple answer is that it’s because of from Charlotte.

The longer answer is that it was my first sports love as a child, it put charlotte on the map, the games were like a carnival, and it was something we enjoyed as a family”.

1^st Question:

Provided that I am a long-time Hornets fan and you have saved half of my life … how did the idea of Bring Back The Buzz come about?

How much did you have to push and struggle to make your voice heard to the management?

1^st Answer:

“That’s very touching to hear.

My brother and I were watching a Bobcats game and were discussing how apathetic the city at the time was to the success of the team.

We wondered why that was and we said “It wouldn’t be like this if we were still the Hornets!”.

W e built a website and a twitter page that night and the rest is history.

It was pretty difficult at first because we were all over the news stations here in Charlotte and were beginning to gain traction nationally.

We were a bit of a thorn in their side for a while I believe so I think their strategy was to ignore it for as long as possible until they couldn’t anymore.

They have embraced our existence now and I think It will benefit the fanbase greatly in the coming years”.

2^nd Question:

Many fans wonder what the differences are between the original Hornets (up to 2002) and the new ones.

While the first project had been very successful (more than 9 consecutive years of sold-out matches, a team often over .500 and many appearances at the POs), we cannot say the same for the new one.

Why do we struggle to be successful in terms of results on the basketball court?

2^nd Answer:

“I think the main difference is the apathy I mentioned earlier that exhisted here in Charlotte at the inception of the Bobcats.

The NBA took away the Hornets from Charlotte which soured a lot of people here to the league and then two years later they ripped off the bandaid too soon and gave us something strange and foreign to us called the “Bobcats”.

That coupled with poor play on the court lead to the apathy of no one Charlotte holding the team accountable.

They were just ignored.

That’s what Bring Back The Buzz was trying to fix. Bring back the old intensity from the fanbase, build a community and hold the team’s feet to the fire when things went poorly.

I think you are seeing the results of an engaged fanbase demanding more from the team and organization which is why we are trending back up.

There are also some differences between the Charlotte of that time and the current one that has grown enormously”.

3^rd Question:

There are differences in the city of the time and the current one?

How important is the physical presence of the fans at the Spectrum Center for the future of the team and how important is the Hornets-mania of the teal & purple people scattered for the globe?

3^rd Answer:

“Charlotte back then was a small city and literally the Hornets were the only things to go out on the town and really do in 1988.

So people cherished it and went to games.

Charlotte has boomed and we are very much a transplant city with people from all over the world.

There is so much more to do now.

We are one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

There is a discovery period with people that move here and I think because of the rise in success of the Hornets recently these new faces are starting to realize that the Hornets are fun and are becoming fans.

BUT Charlotte in its own way will always be a small town at heart.

We don’t bother athletes when we see them in public.

We nod our heads, say hi and keep it moving and let them live.

Not many markets our size let someone that famous just live in peace.

That is why many players have lived here long after their careers are over and others have houses here even if they go to another team.

That connection between fan and player is unique here and they appreciate us for that.

And the passionate fans bring it on game night so there is an intimate connection that the players have to be missing on a nightly basis”.

4^th Question:

In 2019 Kemba Walker was no more the heart and soul of the team and in 2020 Covid-19 hit the whole world.

How are Charlotte sports supporters and the Queen City inhabitants facing these two different aspects that are putting the city in difficulty?

4^th Answer:

“People are adapting all over the globe.

Losing Kemba was hard but we faced the harsh reality and moved on supporting our team.

We wish him the best but we had to plan for the future and see how we could become the best with the pieces we had.

Occasionally we look back and reminisce but we are working with the cards we have.

I think it’s similar with the Pandemic.

We are having socially distanced watch parties, we are engaging so much more over social media. Do we wish we could be there?

Hell yah but we can’t for the time being and are adapting to make the best of it”.

5^th Question:

Let’s have a look at the future now:

LaMelo Ball and Gordon Hayward are two names meant to relaunch the Hornets project on the field because perhaps the best medicine to attract future good FAs is to win today.

Do you think that they are two players who could be the stepping stone to a brighter future for the Hornets?

5^th Answer:

“I think so.

You have a young rising star and you have an all-star level veteran and a team that Is shocking the entire NBA world.

I think the NBA knows we are a piece or two away from being a force to be reckoned with.

You also look at how we compensated Gordon and are helping Terry thrive, both assets we got from Boston, I think there will be more players considering us as a destination in the future”.

6^th Question:

Marco Belinelli – the Italian player who played for the Hornets – spoke very highly of the organization of the Charlotte Hornets and Michael Jordan.

What do you think of the organization and MJ?

Many fans would like to see Jordan doing the same career as President as when he was a stellar player.

For now MJ is taking small steps at a time.

What do you think could be the real difficulties that the owner of the Hornets is encountering in giving shape to a contender team?

6^th Answer:

“I think Jordan has now finally built a stuff that he can trust and isn’t I believe feeling the need to step in and push his stance too much anymore.

He’s trusting Mitch’s process and I think is proving to be a fruitful direction so far.

Jordan is benefiting from being less involved in the basketball operations side but still being Jordan enough to get on the phone and talk with a free agent cus at the end of the day no NBA player is NOT gonna answer a phone call from Michael Jordan”.

Would you like to leave a message to the Italian fans and to the other Charlotte supporters those around the world?

“I’ve talked with Hornets fans all over the world from Australia, Japan, Italy, Germany etc.

It’s incredible the allegiance fans like you have.

It is much harder for you guys to keep up with the team than it is for us here in Charlotte and I commend you for your dedication.

I hope some day soon you all find that opportunity to join us here in Buzz City for a beer bee-fore a game!
